I first saw this tutorial for a cassette tape coin purse in ReadyMade Magazine and fell in love with the idea of making something out of the old cassettes I just can’t bear to get rid of . . . . I have a sizable box of cassettes I have moved dozens of time in the last two decades – how can I trash that black imported Smiths cassette that I spent all my field trip spending money on in 1987? How could I live with myself if I just tossed out my Bad Music for Bad People cassette? I don’t have to, now, because I have what every crafter longs for – a real, legitimate excuse for having held on to something way past its expiration.
When I went back to find the tutorial whose paper copy I could no longer dig up, I was excited to find that Chezlin (a Texan crafter) had done a tutorial months before the coin purse for a cassette tape wallet. I love that this option features more personalization and you can use the tapes you might, even still, be embarrassed to admit you own. Or you can use any cheap cassette you find at a thrift store or yard sale. So crack ‘em open and get out the glue. Make those ancient plastic things useful once again.

I think I may have to commission a couple of these from a certain gift-giving cousin! I too have a box of cassette tapes I have yet to part with. Achy Breaky Heart and Ice Ice Baby were little moments in our popculture history and my formative years. (yes that probably does explain a great deal about me)
